The First Flush Festival is an annual celebration commemorating the first tea leaf harvest of the season. Held at the Charleston Tea Plantation, the only tea plantation in North America, locals from the Charleston area and visitors alike make the trek to Wadmalaw Island for a day of music, food, and shopping with local artisans. In the past several years, acts such as Sheryl Crow, Old Crow Medicine Show, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, the Avett Brothers, & Robert Randolph have headlined this multi-stage event. Popular local musicians keep the stages busy throughout the day. Festival-goers meander through the tea bushes and fill their bellies at Chowtown, where they have plenty of options with nearly 20 food trucks all serving a wide variety of cuisine. Jump castles, water fun, and face painting await even the youngest visitors! So, bring a blanket, come hungry, and plan to rock the night away.
